Hey, what’s up everybody? I hope you are all killing it in your business and helping your clients make positive changes in their lives. I know you’ve read all the statistics on how video is the most effective means to share information with your clients and grow your business. I want to share a couple quick tips and examples that will help take your video quality to the next level.
I’ve been creating some sick videos for trainers all over the world. After every video I make, I send a couple tips to them on how they can improve the quality of their next video. Well, you get to benefit from their experiences. These are examples you can use if you’re using a major movie camera or your iPhone.
Example #1 – Get unique angles
Too many times I see footage with the camera just being held at normal standing height. This will let you see what’s happening, but it’s not very interesting. In this clip, I was laying on the floor to follow the action of some gator crawls.
Example #2 – Follow the Action
Another issue I see quite often is the camera being too far back, not moving and just shooting everything in the scene. A more interesting technique is to get a little closer in, and follow the action as I did in this example.
Example #3 – Don’t Follow the Action
This may seem like the opposite advice from what I just gave you, but look more closely. Here again, I am not taking a wide angle where they run from one side to another. I get closer to the action and have them run into and out of the frame. When you pair this with the other angles we are using here, we have quite a dynamic final product.
Example #4 – Move with the Action
This technique can be tricky, because the video can be a bit shaky. But remember, this is high energy content we are filming, so a little camera shake is okay. This movement makes viewers feel like they are part of the action.
Example #5 – Don’t Forget About the Trainers
Of course people want to see all the cool workouts you are doing in your gym. But they also want to see the energy, positive attitude and motivation coming from your trainers. A lot of trainers want to use motivational words to pop up in their videos. I think this is a much more creative option.
That’s it for now, I’ll let you all practice those for a while. If you have any questions or need any further tips, feel free to contact me anytime. Most of these techniques I’ll share later assume you are using the equipment I recommend (or something similar). If you haven’t received that list yet, make sure you fill out the short form on the home page and I’ll get it over to you.
Take it easy,
Gene
